I went a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday morning around 11:30 am. also hosts very interesting speaking events at night that are related to the various exhibits.Managed to see most of the temporary exhibit around My favorite was the short 25 minute movie about the history of "I've worked with Hashmat twice now to frame two block prints. The Museum of the City of New York is dedicated to showcasing the past, present and future of urban life in the Big Apple, and how it came to be one of the world's most influential metropolises. The other great thing about The Museum of The City of New York is that odds are good that it won't be as crowded as some of the other more " popular " museums. We love when local students pay us a visit!
It is way uptown, but the area is just as safe as the rest of the city. Even then, we didn't quite finish and we subsequently spent about an hour rushing through the three (terrific) temporary exhibits - of which "A City Seen" was the highlight (it's an exhibit of many of Todd Webb's NYC photos).We spent quite awhile at the museum today, as there are currently *four* terrific exhibits. Best of all is the exhibit entitled "Roz Chast, Cartoon Memoirs" (which will be there through October 9). I felt like a real adult when I left the store with my beautiful new piece. It also happened to be the hottest day of the year so going to an interesting, air-conditioned place was very welcomed.Hi Kimberly! If any of you read The New Yorker Magazine, you'll be familiar with her cartoons - and the museum exhibit features a *huge* number of the original pieces, plus a large painting on the hallway wall and various other items. First, the wonderful classical music being played in the lovely entranceway. We were pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive exhibits that cover NYC's diversity and advocacy. Exhibits show the life and times of New Yorkers through the decades of change, different ethnic groups and areas of the 5 boroughs and social integration and changes unique to NYC. They also had a super kid-friendly interactive section focused on sustainability and city planning that was so fun! NYC, virile, dirty, shining, loud....NYC visit Memphis Rock and Soul Museum and get your game on.
Even the members line snaked outside the building. It is a must go if you visit New York or you live here. I went there today with a friend and we spent quite a lot of time viewing the exhibit; we thought it was fascinating and *extremely* worthwhile seeing.
The building is very pretty (both inside & out) and the bookstore has a great selection of books about NYC.
