His dad has a wife lined up for him that he keeps rejecting - until it's her or being cut off from $750,000,000. So British. So droll.
If you torrent without a VPN, your ISP can see that you're torrenting and may throttle your connection and get fined by legal action! But Gielgud? Arthur and Linda's chemistry adds electricity to the rest of the film.
One day he and his personal butler, Hobson (Gielgud), go shopping at Bergdorf Goodman's and run into petty larcenist, Linda (Minnelli). So dry. Of course, when one such as he gets caught between the moon and New York City...Honestly pretty enjoyable and funny- I liked Liza Minnelli more in this than Cabaret. A goddess—an obscenely talented, emotionally insecure, possibly unstable goddess.
Dudley Moore? This one also gets a solid ten on the voting scale. Then he goes shopping where he falls in love with a shoplifter. He also refuses to leave the bottle. A wisecracking old butler with music in his voice, poetry in his soul, and zero tolerance for bullshit. Arthur is the most quotable drunk millionaire that is likely to ever steal your heart. Dudley Moore is also very funny, and very endearing in his own way; but I liked the bits where he wasn't drunk better, despite that being a major part of his character. He’s also the secret heart of the picture.
Feel free…I'm a simple woman - if greta gerwig recommends, I'll watch it.
He meets Linda (Liza Minelli) who does whatever it takes to see to it that the arranged marriage to Susan doesn't happen. Gielgud's Oscar winning performance will always put this movie on cinephiles radar, but there is so much more to this movie, I say that while fully believing that Gielgud's role is one of the greatest supporting characters in movie history. He’s also the secret heart of the picture. Arthur (1981) Cast and Crew. It might be the for the fact that I'm not a Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli fan, and I kept putting it off.Dudley Moore stars as a drunken millionaire, Arthur Bach, who is being forced to marry a woman he despises, otherwise, he will be…I haven’t watched this movie since the 80s and totally forgot how hilarious Sir John Gielgud was in it. A tour de force.
This is a typical feel-good 80's comedy, but when they're done well, like this one is, they're done very well. A wisecracking old butler with music in his voice, poetry in his soul, and zero tolerance for bullshit. We all used to like tuna fish sandwiches- right?Week 2: A film which a queer person won an Oscar for (in any category).A fairly standard romantic comedy elevated hugely by two elements: A steady stream of excellent dialogue and quotable one-liners, and great performances.
Arthur, played by Dudley Moore, is the alcoholic hero of "Arthur," a comedy about a man who is worth $750 million and who would never think of trying to buy anyone's love with his money.
(references on notes!) It's an especially unfortunate loss since he shows a truly deft hand at character-driven farce that makes the whole film irresistible. Arthur is a happy drunk with no pretensions at any ambition. She took a cab to the middle of nowhere and vanished,…
