While most parliamentary constituencies overlap with one or two local authorities – Central Devon has parts of four – West Devon, Mid Devon, East Devon and Teignbridge. Central Devon residents have written to their MP calling for a fair, green, post-COVID recovery. Earth, said on Thursday: “In 2008 the CCC advised the Government that 4˚C was the threshold of “extreme danger”, to be avoided at all costs [1]. You can unsubscribe at any time. His allegiance seems to be to the government rather than to his constituents.“He should remind the government of its responsibility for keeping us safe, rather than supporting a return to business as usual which will do nothing to stop floods and food shortages and bring death and suffering on a large scale.”Following the letter, members of the group said they were disappointed that he declined to meet them to discuss their concerns.More than 13,000 people are joining the UK-wide lobby, with groups meeting 250 MP’s online.
3-month mortgage/rent payment holiday The Government has also negotiated with mortgage lenders so any homeowner or landlord can apply for a three-month mortgage payment holiday (with landlords then able to pass on rent holidays to their tenants). All rights reserved. As the leading climate scientist, Professor Johan Rockstrom has recently warned, a 4˚C world implies the loss of not just millions but billions of human lives [3], with racially marginalised communities and those in the Global South on the front line.“It is madness to prepare for such a world and madness that the Bank of England is financing such an outcome [4]. Even so, the report reveals an almost complete lack of progress towards the UK’s legally enacted goal of net zero by 2050, with only four of the 21 indicators on track and two of 31 milestones reached on the road to net zero emissions.Bundy added: “The UK is specially influential now as chair of the next COP26 climate talks; but we’ll have no credibility if we don’t walk our talk.“The Committee on Climate Change is virtually telling the government to prepare for apocalypse, referring to the danger of a 4ᵒC world. We are individually making our lifestyles more sustainable and want to work together in our communities to reduce our climate impact as part of a national effort.

Copyright 2020 Mel Stride MP for Central Devon. (The Assembly is a representative cross section of the British public). If you are involved with a support group and want my help or advice please do not hesitate to contact me (mel.stride.mp@parliament.uk). We are hopeful about the opportunity that lies ahead to answer these questions and are committed to being a part of reshaping our community for the better and providing a high quality of life for all. The seat has been held by Mel Stride (Conservative) since May 2010. Central Devon’s largest towns are Crediton, Okehampton and Bovey Tracey and the constituency is thought to be the only one in the UK without a conurbation with a population of over 10,000 people. We need rapid action now to prevent millions of avoidable deaths from climate chaos.“The UK is specially influential now as chair of the next COP26 climate talks; but we’ll have no credibility if we don’t walk our talk.”As Mel Stride is currently in London, he was be represented by a cardboard replica.
This is a time to be decisive in saving lives, and bold in charting a path to a genuinely healthier and more equitable future for all.
The Boundary Commission for England submitted their final proposals in respect of the Sixth Periodic Review of Westminster Constituencies (the 2018 review) in September 2018.
Mel Stride has been re-elected as the MP for Devon Central, with an increased majority.
