However, when a demon master named Gulamendis is sent to scout out the land and meet the locals he discovers Tomas and the truth behind much of the Taredhel's lore.
How will the peoples of Midkemia deal with them? The narrative is as taut as ever, the plot extremely tightly focused on a few places, a few people. While not as fresh as in the Riftwar saga, he's back with some of the edge, confusion, and swirling action that categorized his earlier writing.
This is not a book that innovates much compared to several of the previous ones in the series but it certainly contains an interesting story, at least for those who have come this far. I found myself flying through this book with never a dull moment. I tore through it but found that it seemed like I was being dragged quickly from one thing to the next in order to get to the end of the book.
OnApparently this is part of a massive series, but the book cover says #1 so I thought I was reading the first book. I started it a few months ago and quit because I was bored. I won’t miss Miranda; I found her irritating. It feels rushed, there could have been so much more explanation and entertainment than was provided which is what I would have expected having read all the others.
I'm such sucker for easy gimmicks, but this isn't affecting me from buying more of Feist. This story begins with Amirantha - a Warlock who can summon demons - summoning a demon that breaks his control and with the help of his "son" Brandos, they conquer it and get paid by a local leader for their work.
Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations I gave it three stars, but that's only because I'm extremely generous.
Rides a Dread Legion is the first book in the Demonwar Saga duology, which is the second-to-last subseries in Raymond E. Feist’s very, very long Riftwar Cycle. I have been an avid reader and fan of Raymond E. Feist.
And hanging over Pug always is the prophecy that he will be doomed to watch everyone he loves die before him… (From HarperCollins UK 13 August 2008 )Laromendis is a conjurer from another world - a world inhabited by a race of high elves whose home is being ravaged by the Dread Legion of the Demon King. The cornerstone of taredhel lore is the tale of their lost origins in the world they call simply ‘Home’, a place lost in the mists of time. Led by the conjurer Laromendis, they are fleeing the relentless demon hordes that are sweeping through their galaxy and destroying the elves' vast empire planet by planet. Only one path remains for Pug and Midkemia's clandestine protectors, the Conclave of Shadows: forging an alliance of formidable magical talents, from the demon-dealing warlock Amirantha, brother of Pug's hated foe, and the demon-taming cleric Sandreena, to the elven Queen Miranda, to the warrior Tomas. Welcome back.
Better than game of thrones, I've now converted my mum to this series as she is so disheartened by GRR Martin's lack of time keeping I like D&D, so that's not an inherently bad thing, but it's usually not an indicator of quality, either. But you know what I would really enjoy? . As seems to be the standard for a new Midkemia series, you develop a good feel for where this one is going, but it takes forever to get any speed going. Midkemia is done, has been done for a long time.
